The Choral Conducting masterclass is designed for professional Choral conductors and advanced music students majoring in Conducting, Choral Conducting, Church Music or Music Education. The teaching will be done by Prof. Markus Utz (Zurich University of the Arts) and Prof. Denis Rouger (University of Music Stuttgart, Germany).

There will be a maximum of 16 active participants, each of whom will conduct in daily conducting lessons, work with little groups and with piano in the afternoon, and with the festival choir (ca. 30 singers) every evening for three hours. The participants will also sing in the choir, so that we will have a choir of about 45 SATB.

The individual needs of each participant will be covered by personal training and video analysis within the conducting lessons, finding a systematic approach to methodology of planning and preparing a rehearsal in class meetings, and of course coaching in front of the choir. Conducting technique, presence in front of the choir, and understanding of the score in preparation of a concert performance will be addressed.

As part of the course, a final concert is planned for the participants at which all the course graduates will be actively conducting. Therefore, the whole course repertoire should be completely prepared in advance. The allocation of the pieces or movements to be conducted in concert will be made during the course.
